If there was an award for the clumsiest movie title of 2021, we may already have a winner. THE HITMAN'S BODYGUARD starts with a tightly edited glimpse at the life of a high-end bodyguard for hire: London-based Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) dons a beautiful suit, holsters shiny guns, and manages to keep a Japanese millionaire from harm - until he's unexpectedly and unavoidably killed.A McGuffin involving a diamond drill tunnelling into 'Europe's data hub' to implant a virus is infantile. Bodyguard Michael Bryce is now on a company mandated sabbatical when Sonia Kincaid, the wife of hitman Darius Kincaid whom Bryce shares an uneasy friendship with, rescues him from an assassination. The plot here is shallow and ludicrous.When matched with some rather dodgy post-shoot special effects, the effect is generally underwhelming. The result is that although it has the trappings of a Bond or a Bourne - exotic locations (here, mostly Italian ones) exotic woman car chases heavily-armed henchmen huge explosions - it delivers none of the tension or excitement.
